Wanting a picnic to explore the Parata, or take on a hike on the Crêtes whilst in Ajaccio on your walking holiday, or just looking to explore Napoleon’s home town and need a flavoursome bite to eat, this is one of the local favourites and a great place for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free delicacies. Call into the shop just off the Route des Sanguinares for a take out, or get your picnic delivered to your hotel – it really is that simple!

We, like our fellow Ajaccians have followed ‘Bacchus est une Femme,’ Bacchus is a woman, for a few years. Now a really successful delicatessen, she has quite a following in Ajaccio, especially with the sporty crowd ! This Saturday, was the first time we pushed open the door to this little foody boutique and felt immediately embraced by the kindness and enthusiasm of this kitchen.
I met the lady behind the scenes, warm hearted, welcoming and passionate about food
Halima, ushered me in. Despite her experience and qualifications, there is nothing pretentious here ! I found a hub of activity, a small community of foodies, waiting to sample something really tremendous!
At just 16 Halima Zampirollo studied to be a pastry chef at Hotelière d’Evry but soon decided that she wanted to learn a wider spectrum of cuisine. She continued her studies for another two years at Les Césardières restaurant at Saint-Yon and went on to graduate from Ferrandi Paris, the French school of culinary arts.

At 19, Halima worked with the famed chef Denis Bernal in his prestigious restaurant on the Champs Elysée Café Lenôtre, and Le Pré Catelan with its 3 michelin stars. Here, she worked under the direction of Roland Durant, Meilleur ouvrier de France.
At 23, Halima graduated from the school of gastronomy and hospitality in Versailles and obtained the title of Maitre Artisan. She was soon snapped up by the most prestigious chefs.
What I love about her shop, is that you have a direct view of the kitchen, you can see the meal preparation and smell the delicious aromas wafting from the oven. There are a selection of freshly prepared homemade natural goodies, to eat in, or take away. A variety of quiches and salads with locally sourced ingredients. I chose the lasagne, it was soft, melty and light, unlike any pasta dish I had ever tasted.

Looking for a special gift to take back home? The Apricot and Vanilla jam is a real pot of pleasure! There are a cheeky selection of wines and some great aperitif ideas. Grab a bottle for later, to enjoy with a jar of Caviar d’aubergines, Terrine de campagne and some crisp French baguettes, whilst watching the sea at a nearby cove.

Don’t forget to pop by if you are on your way back from Les Cretes on our ‘Mare a Mare North’ holiday you can order a gastronomic picnic for the next day!
Location : 46, Cours Lucien Bonaparte, 20000 Ajaccio
